Born in 1955 in what was then West Germany (my father was serving there in the Britsh Army), my earliest memories are of life in Cyprus, beaches, hot days and ancient ruins.
After a couple of short stints back in the UK, it was back to Germany, a country and people that I have great memories of.
My family made the most of living in central Europe and holidays were spent travelling and camping around the continent. I think that's where my love of travel comes from.
I joined the army at the age of fifteen (boys service) and left to join the police in 1978.
I retired in September 2004 and being divorced with no children and no commitments decided that now is the time to indulge my wanderlust before I get too old!
I've owned or ridden motorcycles since 1974.
My earliest two-wheeled adventure was deciding to take my Yamaha DT250 Trail back to Germany where I was then stationed, in January 1975.
Getting to the Harwich ferry was fairly easy but Hamburg to Paderborn in the snow with no proper clothing and carrying a suitcase strapped to the rear seat was memorable to say the least! The things we do at 19?
Later in my police service, I was fortunate enough to become a traffic motorcyclist. The training and subsequent experience has stood me in good stead.
As much as I love driving a nice car (and I've owned a few nice ones) being on a motorcycle just seems natural. Travelling to different places on a bike combines two of lifes greatest pleasures.
